GUEST SPOT @ THE REINSTITUTE is an independent gallery, a residency, a home, and a School for Innovation and Self-Accreditation in the Arts and Sciences, all based in a rowhouse on N. Calvert Street. As a home, independent gallery, residency, and school for self-accreditation, GUEST SPOT @ THE REINSTITUTE explores and champions new methods of sustaining the livelihood of artists, scholars, and others with creative pursuits. THE REINSTITUTE RESEARCH LIBRARY (“the Library”) on the Self-Organized will include a mini-archive of ephemera from independent / artist-run spaces in Baltimore, essays about the self-organized practice, and materials relating to alternative arts educational programming.
THE MINI RESIDENCY PROGRAM will facilitate a major component missing from the Baltimore landscape: a curated residency that connects self-directed visitors and their programs with active, participatory local collaborators and audiences. The guiding premise of the Mini Residency is to establish mutually-beneficial educational exchanges between the Baltimore/DC arts scene and self-organized individuals who maintain practices elsewhere, both nationally and internationally. The program will provide a local homebase for critics to expand their geographic reach; for curators to facilitate focused critiques or lectures; and for artists to develop and install work. THE REINSTITUTE will work closely with each residency participant to craft a customized experiences.
The Seasonal Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students and beginning professionals with practical experience in a specific area of curatorial research at Guest Spot @ THE REINSTITUTE.
The Gallery/Museum/School/Residency hosts approximately 2 interns per season. Participants may arrange for academic credit through their school, but it is certainly not a requirement.
